Mrs. Angela Whitley, 67, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones, on June 16, 2026.
Friends will be greeted by the family on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Buena Vista, GA.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM in Buena Vista Cemetery with Pastor Chris Hess officiating.
Born June 26, 1958, in Butler, GA, to Dudley and Jo Eleanor Johnson, Angela grew up in Buena Vista and graduated from Marion County High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from Columbus College and a Master’s Degree from Troy University.
Angela retired from the Alabama Department of Human Resources, where she focused her career on foster care and adoption. She tirelessly advocated for children and made a profoundly positive impact throughout her life. Known for her wit and sense of humor, Angela enjoyed horseback riding, reading, hunting, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She valiantly struggled to live life to the fullest despite her diagnosis with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), facing the disease with remarkable grace, strength, and faith. She spent her life putting others before herself, working hard, and carrying her burdens quietly so that no one else would have to.
Angela was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Gary “Beany” Whitley of Buena Vista, GA; son, Brent Dorton of Columbus, GA; daughter, Kalen Sieck (Wade) of Smith Station, AL; step-daughter, Mary Ruth Whitley of Buena Vista, GA; and sisters, Melanie Johnson of Buena Vista, GA, and Elaine Hagler (Karl) of Huntsville, AL. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Preston Dorton, Lou Sieck, Maggie Sieck, Josh Treadwell, and Karli Weldon, as well as her niece, Rachel Hagler Dean (Jacob), nephew Travis Hagler, and great-niece Addison Dean.
The family extends their deepest gratitude for the compassionate care Angela received from Dr. Rebeka Simpa at UAB Neurology in Birmingham, AL, Lauren Murray at Phoebe Primary Care of Buena Vista, Olivia and Carol of Columbus Hospice, and Mary “Cookie” West.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Columbus Hospice at www.columbushospice.com/donate or to CurePSP at www.psp.org
