Benjamin Buel Johnson

ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. Benjamin Buel Johnson, age 76, of 121 S. Bailey Avenue, Leslie, GA, died Monday, January 10, 2011. He was born March 31, 1934 in Middletown, NY, the son of the late Earnest and Susan Carey Wood Johnson of Bloomingburg, NY.
Mr. Johnson was a long haul truck driver for over 50 years having traveled over 6 million miles. He worked for his father hauling milk from 1952-1957 before becoming a long haul truck driver. Mr. Johnson owned his own truck for 2 years, then went to work for Channel Master where he drove a truck from 1962-1984. In 1984 he took his family and moved to Orlando, FL and worked for Hughes Supply for 4 years. Mr. Johnson then went to work for Alterman Transport. In 1992, his wife went trucking with him as a husband and wife team running all 48 states until 2001. Mr. Johnson retired from trucking and worked as a security guard for 5 years. In 2009, Mr. Johnson and his wife moved to Ellaville, GA. He was a member of the Bloomingburg Methodist Church, had served as Boy Scout Master of Troop 67 in Bloomingburg, NY from 1953-1956 and was Second Assistant Chief of the Bloomingburg Fire Department from 1953-1956.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Judy Martin Johnson; three daughters, Lisa Taylor of Circleville, NY, Christina Strickland of Ellaville, GA, and Karen Radakovic of Raleigh, NC; one son, Benjamin Johnson of Orlando, FL; and three brothers, George M. Johnson, Frank Johnson, and Russell Johnson all of Bloomingburg, NY. Mr. Johnson is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Bloomingburg, NY.
