Mr. Charles Ray Howerton, 83, of Box Springs, GA, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Oakland Church of God Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 2:00-4:00PM at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Buena Vista, GA.

Mr. Howerton was born May 6, 1943, in Middleboro, KY, to John and Dortha Tredway Howerton. He served honorably in the United States Army where he was a diesel mechanic. Mr. Howerton was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing. He was an all-around good man with a big heart and was excellent at storytelling. A wonderful husband to his wife, Joyce, he loved his family and his grandchildren were his heart. He retired from Ford Motor Company. Mr. Howerton was your typical grumpy old man who “didn’t like dogs” but had a strong bond with his grandson’s dog, Buddy. He always enjoyed lake views and sunsets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Howerton and siblings.

He is survived by a son, Richard Howerton; by a daughter, Cathy Howerton; by three stepsons, Allan Tennant, Steven Tennant and James Tennant; by a brother, Earl Howerton; by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by all of his friends and extended family.
