CMC Lawrence Albert Drury USN (Ret.)

Command Master Chief, Lawrence Albert Drury USN (Ret.), 69, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Columbus Hospice.  Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 12:00 PM in Andersonville National Cemetery.  A memorial service will be held at Ft. Perry Baptist Church on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Gene Rosinbaum officiating. 

CMC Drury was born September 4, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Harris Drury and Helen Louise Alvey Drury.  He was a decorated retiree of the U.S. Navy, where he served over 28 years. He was in the service for 6 years before exiting briefly, where he became a police officer and met and married his wife, Rita.  CMC Drury re-entered the Navy in 1973 where he would stay until his retirement. 

During his career in the Navy, he worked as a Dental Technician for 20 years and as a Career Counselor, helping other members of the Navy advance their careers for 13 years.  CMC Drury attended the Senior Enlisted Academy in 1989 helping to further his career, where he finally attained the rank of Command Master Chief Petty Officer. Upon his retirement from the Navy, in 1993 he went to work with Ecolab Pest Control and then for 10 years at Disney World in Orlando as Security.  When he left Disney World, he moved to Georgia where he completed his final wish of buying a farm for his family to settle down, for good. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Rita Drury of Box Springs, GA; a son, Shawn Drury and his wife, Tara of Deltona, FL; a daughter, Kimberly Schorr of Box Springs, GA; two grandchildren, Brittany Firman and Nathaniel Firman; two brothers, Paul Drury and his wife, Pauline of Troy, MI and James Drury and his wife, Darlene of South Lyon, MI; a sister, Patricia Drury of Grosse Pointe, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fort Perry Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1849 Bethlehem Rd., Mauk, GA 31058.
