Mr. Donald Lee “Don” Kaler, 76, of Mauk, GA, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 5:00PM on Friday, November 21, 2025, in the Chapel of Way-Watson Funeral Home in Buena Vista, GA, with Rev. Lorne Whitley officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 4:00PM.
Mr. Kaler was born September 1, 1949, in Lowville, NY, to Luther and Beatrice Morrison Kaler. He served honorably in the United States Navy where he worked on an aircraft carrier as an aircraft mechanic. Mr. Kaler worked as a heavy equipment mechanic with civil service and later as a school bus driver for 20 years before his retirement. If you needed something fixed, he would fix it. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline, Laura, and Shirley.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Catherine Elizabeth Stevens Kaler; by four daughters, Lynn of North Carolina, Tina (Albert) of Missouri, Dawn of Georgia, and Danielle (Jeff) of Georgia; by a brother and sister-in-law, David (Theresa) of Missouri; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Jason, Jacob, Jeremy, Aaron, Kira, Damion, Drew, and Grant; five great-grandchildren and two on the way. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
