Erlene Welch Layfield

Mrs. Erlene Welch Layfield, 79, passed away on January 31, 2016 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at County Line Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mark Poole officiating. Burial will follow in Ellaville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Bill James, Herb Williams, Kyle Harris, Ryan Harris, Wes Skipper and L.C. "Shot" McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Gus Harris, the adult ladies Sunday school class, and the men of County Line Baptist Church.

Mrs. Layfield was born September 15, 1936 in Schley County to the late Roy Johnson and Iris Robinson Johnson.  She was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Ellaville where she loved to attend and sing hymns.  Mrs. Layfield enjoyed reading and puzzles during her spare time.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Welch. 

Survivors include her husband, Sammy Layfield of Oglethorpe, GA; a son, Bill Welch (Brenda) of Ellaville; a daughter, Jan Williams (Herb) of Ellaville; a step-son, Buddy Self (Maria) of Clarkesville, TN; a step-daughter, Sheila Shanks (Al) of Waco, TX; ten grandchildren, Ryan Harris, Kyle Harris, Kelly Skipper, Colby Williams, Geneva Bass, Westbrook Williams, Brandon Williams, Veronica Glover, Lauren Cotton and Mandy Richards; five great-grandchildren, Gus Harris, Lily Harris, Hayden Harris, Kyler Harris and Kenley Skipper.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 1, 2016, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville, GA.
