Eugenia "Deanie" Hutto Wells, age 92, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, May 4, 2025. The family will have visitation at Draneville Union Church, Buena Vista, GA Friday, May 9th at 10:00 AM with service to follow at 11:00 AM.
Deanie was a cherished mother of five, devoted grandmother, and treasured friend to many. She lived a life rooted in faith, family, and simple joys.
Born and raised in Ellaville, GA, her family moved to Buena Vista during her sophomore year of high school. Soon after, she met her husband, Michael Wells, Jr. They were married for 72 years, until his passing in 2022.
As the wife of a hardworking farmer, she dedicated her days to raising her children and keeping a warm and welcoming home. However, she was much more than a homemaker. Deanie was a talented and gifted floral designer, artist, gardener, caterer and cake decorator. She made wedding cakes and birthday cakes for many throughout the community and surrounding towns. At the age of sixty, she opened and successfully ran a deli and bakery in Buena Vista, Georgia.
Her creativity and work ethic knew no bounds. She filled her world with color—through her flowers, her paintings, and the meals she lovingly prepared. She found much joy in creating floral arrangements for many Sunday church services that continued almost until her passing. Often Jr. would walk into the house on Sunday mornings with freshly cut flowers from their yard and, within minutes, she would have created a beautiful arrangement that he would take to the church and place at the altar with pride.
Her home was a place where all were welcome—family, neighbors, friends, and furry companions alike. Animals held a special place in her heart. Deanie helped rescue countless animals brought to her when found abandoned or injured. She was happiest when her cat would curl up in her lap.
But it was her role as mother and grandmother that brought her the deepest joy. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and delight. She leaves to them a legacy of kindness, creativity, and deep, abiding love. Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted by the beautiful life she lived and the memories we carry forward.
Deanie is preceded in death by her husband, Michael B. Wells, Jr., her parents Lula and Jonah Hutto, her siblings: Delora Dickey, Edra Pope, Basil Hutto, Linah Campbell, G. W. Hutto, and Betty Phillips. She is also preceded in death by her grandson, Alexander Michael Bluestone.
She is survived by her children: Perry (wife Leslie), Patricia (husband Stan), Randy (wife Linda), David (wife Sandra), and Julie (husband Frank)
Grandchildren: Kalin Bluestone, Daniel Wells (wife Liza), Chrissy McDonald (husband Matt), Lauren MacKarvich (husband Chase), Leah Whitaker (husband Alex) Peyton Wells, Elizabeth Brown, Gray Wells, Emilie Yelton (husband Ballard), Caroline Brown and Brick Wells.
