Evelyn Hurst Carpenter

Mrs. Evelyn H. Carpenter, age 94, of Americus, GA died Friday, October 17, 2014 at her residence.  Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Ellaville Cemetery.  Rev. Joy Wilson will officiate.  

      Mrs. Carpenter was born in St. Claire County, AL on February 20, 1920.  She was the daughter of Elijah and Louella Tarrance.  Mrs. Carpenter had worked at Manhattan Shirt Company.  She was a member of Williams Road Church of Christ.

    Survivors include one daughter, Marie Bell and husband Alf of Americus, one daughter in law, June Hurst of Ellaville, three step-daughters, Helen Beckwith of Ellaville, Mary Jane Arnold and husband Tommy of Ellaville, Betty Jean Bryan and husband Bob of Americus; two step-sons, Larry Carpenter and wife Jackie of Ellaville, James Carpenter and wife Tammy of Ellaville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Amelia Bell of Oak Ridge, TN, Suzy Pinnell and husband Brian of Lighthouse Point, FL, Hugh Sandy Bell and wife Karen of St. Marys, GA, John Bell and wife Virginia of Carrollton, GA, Chad Bell and wife Angie of Americus, Beth Stewart and husband Steve of Vienna, GA and Joe Hurst of Alpharetta, GA.  Fifteen great-grandchildren also survive.  Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her first husband, Hugh Jason Hurst, her second husband, James Oscar Carpenter, and one son, Hugh Hurst.

     Visitation will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The League of the Good Samaritan, c/o Magnolia Manor, 2001 South Lee Street, Americus, GA  31709.
