Geraldine Dillard

ELLAVILLE, GA— Mrs. Geraldine Brewer Dillard, 91, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Perfect Care in Americus, GA.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Ellaville Baptist Church with burial to follow at the Ellaville Cemetery.  Rev. Joel Smith will officiate.

Geraldine was born on September 14, 1926 in Schley County, GA to the late Bennett Cleveland and Eula Albritton Brewer.  She graduated from Schley County High School and furthered her education at business and cosmetology schools in Atlanta and later obtained a business degree from South Georgia Technical College.

She lived in Schley County all her life.  She was a longtime member of Ellaville Baptist Church, especially enjoying singing in the choir and being a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class.  She loved serving her Lord and even made the communion bread for the Lord’s Supper.  She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and the Garden Club for many years.

Geraldine was a local hairdresser for many years before she stopped to raise her family.  Her children were her number one priority.  After her children were grown, she went back to school and into the workforce and was employed for many years at Barrow Gas in Ellaville.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She also adored her siblings and their children.  She grew up with three older brothers and five older sisters in a very loving home on a farm.  There was a very strong bond between all of them.  She loved her nieces and nephews so much as well.  Geraldine will always be remembered for her warm smile and loving nature.  She was a hugger!  She was also known for being a fabulous cook and for making delicious four layer cakes.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Steve Wurtz of Lake Blackshear and her son and daughter-in-law, Hal and Dana Dillard of Andersonville.  Also surviving are five grandchildren: Erin (Eddie) Everson and their children Emma Kate and Evie Klaire, Allie Wurtz, Chas Wurtz, Owen Dillard, and Reed Dillard.  One sister, Dot Hambrick of Ellaville, and one sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Dillard of Ellaville, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dillard, brothers Marvin Brewer, Fleming Brewer, and Fred Brewer and sisters Nan Peacock, Edna Stephens, Ada Tarrer, and Ida Wall.

Active pallbearers will be Chas Wurtz, Reed Dillard, Eddie Everson, Willard Brewer, Benny Hambrick, James Grant, and Jody Dillard.  Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews and nieces and members of the Lydia Sunday School Class.
