Obituary

Mary Helen Watson Miller, 90, of Fort Valley, Georgia, passed away on August 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born December 12, 1935, in Emanuel County, Georgia, Helen was the daughter of Alma Kimball Watson and Wilburn Tilman Watson. She was the loving older sister of Joan and Genelle.

After earning degrees from Andrew College and West Georgia College, Helen taught fourth grade for two years before marrying the love of her life, Bobby Lee Miller. Together, Helen and Bobby built a life grounded in faith, family, hard work, and service to others.

Their daughter, Kim, was born while they were living and working in Hiram, Georgia. In 1964, they moved to Ellaville, where they opened a Western Auto store. Their family was completed not long afterward with the birth of their son, Robert. For nearly 60 years, Helen and Bobby lived out their faith through service to their community. They treasured the friendships formed through their store and their church, as well as the privilege of serving their neighbors. Helen specifically wished for it to be known that she and Bobby considered the employees of their store to be family.

Helen was known for her kindness, faith, strength, and determination. She loved her family beyond measure. She also loved reading, music, the Atlanta Braves, and traveling. Some of her happiest times were spent celebrating family milestones or sitting on the back porch, watching “her birds” and enjoying her flowers.

Helen taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes for many years at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Schley County, where she and Bobby were longtime members. Her grandchildren knew they could always count on their Nana as their own personal prayer warrior.

Helen’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nana, will remember her Blondies, peach cobbler, pecan pie and her love of Christmas and snowmen. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Joan and Genelle; and her beloved husband of 61 years, Bobby Miller.

She is survived by her daughter, Kim Pounds, and her husband, Scott; her son, Robert Watson Miller, and his wife, Kim Gordon Miller; her granddaughters, Erin Lewis and her husband, Jarrod, and Mary Kathryn Bailey and her husband, Scott; her grandson, Andrew Miller; and her great-grandchildren, Addi and Caden Lewis and Emma and Owen Bailey. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her as Miss Helen.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 1st at 10:00 AM in Ellaville City Cemetery.

The family is deeply grateful for the care, compassion, and kindness shown to Helen and her family by the Hands of Hope caregiving team, especially Mary and Michelle, and by Enhabit Hospice.

Helen’s legacy of faith, kindness and love for her family will continue to be cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
