Herbert Alston Smith, Jr,

ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. Herbert Alston Smith Jr., age 70, of 1674 Ebenezer Road, Ellaville, GA died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at VistaCare @ Franciscan Woods in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Andersonville National Cemetery. Rev. Raymond Smith and Rev. Bryan Bentley will officiate.
Mr. Smith was born March 25, 1941 in Muscogee County, GA, the son of Dorothy Conkle Smith and Herbert Alston Smith Sr. who preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the Navy. Mr. Smith was a retired truck driver, a Mason, member of the VFW and member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Laura Denise Stewart and husband Jerry of Ellaville, Judy Anderson and husband Thomas of Salt Lake City, UT, and Dana Best of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Priscilla Smith, Klarence Stewart, Alston Stewart, Shaelynn Anderson, Brad Anderson, Faith Anderson and three step-grandchildren, April Sellars, Melissa Dillard and Anthony Best. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville, GA.
