James Oscar Carpenter

Mr. James Oscar Carpenter, 82, of Vienna, GA, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his family, on February 9, 2024.  Memorial services will be held in the chapel of Way-Watson Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Cliff Kirkland and Rev. Lisa Johnson officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 PM until service time.

Mr. Carpenter was born to John Oscar and Edna Hobbs Carpenter on October 4, 1941 in Rupert, GA.  He was well known in the area as being a jack of all trades, but most recently worked as a commercial catfish fisherman on the Flint River.  He enjoyed watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke.   Mr. Carpenter lived by his own set of rules and even though he worked hard, he also played hard. He was one in a million and a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Beckwith and a niece, Heather Carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Carpenter of Vienna, GA; three children, Todd Carpenter and his wife, Linda of Ellaville, Gina Bailey and her husband, Joey of Ellaville and Angie Kendrick and her husband, Charles of Vienna; a brother, Larry Carpenter (Jackie) of Newnan, GA and two sisters, Mary Jane Arnold (Tommy) of Ellaville, and Betty Jean Bryan (Bob) of Americus; nine grandchildren, Tabitha Harbuck (Brandon), Patrick Bailey (Kerri), James Kendrick, Katie Wilkes (Zach), Kendall Thomas (Tripp), Zack Kendrick (Tabitha), Mindy Adkins (Kyle), James Murphy (Brandi), and Jonathan Murphy (Tessa); thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care Options, 306 N Davis Dr., Ste C, Warner Robins, GA 31093
