Ellaville, GA—Mr. James “Jimmy” Edsel Harvey, 79, of Ellaville died Monday, February 12, 2018 at Magnolia Manor in Americus, GA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Ellaville United Methodist Church. Rev. Jonathan Beckum, Rev. Joy Wilson and Rev. Brooks Partain will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ellaville Cemetery.
Mr. Harvey was born September 8, 1938 in Taylor County, GA to the late James Powell Harvey and Loree Sanders Harvey. He was a purchasing agent in the mobile home industry. Mr. Harvey had served as sheriff of Schley County, Schley County commissioner, Ellaville City councilman, and mayor pro tem of Ellaville. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, spending time at his lake house. Mr. Harvey was a member of Ellaville United Methodist Church. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Harvey had served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Cissy Harvey; two sons, Jim Harvey and companion Jenny Buchanan of Americus, GA, Rusty Harvey and companion Dawn Hardison of Ellaville; and one sister, Mary Jo Veal of Milledgeville, GA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ellaville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 74, Ellaville, GA 31806; or Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, P. O. Box 1000 Stockbridge, GA 30281.
Pallbearers will include Shane Tondee, John Oscar Mathews, Chip Sanderlin, Chip Veal, Jay Veal, Matthew Ray and Lonnie Ray.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville.
