Obituary

Mrs. Ladola Janet Johns Stowe, 81, of Dawson, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on August 2, 2026. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 10:30AM in the chapel of Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville with Rev. Emil Askew and Rev. Doc Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery at 12:00PM. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 AM until the beginning of the service. Pallbearers will be Ed Rusk, Ethan Rusk, Joshua Williams, Bill Johns, Robert Johns, and Scott Hood. Honorary pallbearers will be Wade Stowe and Arthur Johns

Mrs. Stowe was born October 12, 1944, to Joseph Walter, Sr. and Mary Louise Clark Johns in Cuthbert, Georgia. She dedicated her life to being a wife, a mother and a caregiver, having owned and operated Kandy Kane Daycare in Dawson for 20 years. Mrs. Stowe was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 30. She was a member of the Southwest Georgia Silent Singers, an ASL group, for many years. Mrs. Stowe also volunteered for hospice, made teddy bears for hospitalized children, and was also a Pink Lady volunteer for Phoebe Hospitals. She also enjoyed making Christmas ornaments by hand, square dancing and baking and decorating cakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clark William Johns and Robert Freeman Johns, Sr.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Richard Hampton Stowe, Jr. of Dawson, GA; three children, Karen Denise Stowe Rusk and her husband, Ed of Albany, GA, Leslie Annette Stowe of Cedartown, GA, and Richard “Richie” Hampton Stowe, III and his wife, Angie of Ellaville, GA; five grandchildren, Ethan Alexander Rusk and his wife, Sydney, Skylar McKenzie Stowe, Dixie Cheyenne Stowe, Ansley Faith Register and her husband, Alston, and Jennifer Grace Menard; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Renae Hughes, Savannah Jane Rusk and Elizabeth Rose Stowe; two brothers, Joseph Walter Johns, Jr. of Greenville, SC and Charles Arthur Johns and his wife, Doreen of Rockford, AL; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Cross Johns of Birmingham, AL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
