Jessie James "Buddy" Powell

Mr. Jessie James “Buddy” Powell, 76, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at New Providence Baptist Church with Rev. David Chapman officiating. Burial will follow the service at Tazewell Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Kaleb Powell, Luke Powell, Jack Powell, and Casper Geven. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 6:00-8:00PM.

Mr. Powell was born December 26, 1946, in Buena Vista, GA, to Willie Cecil “Bill” and Eula Francis Wells Powell. Baptist by faith, he was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. Mr. Powell was employed as a USDA Food Inspector for 27 years and attended Texas A&M and Mississippi State for work training during his tenure.  He enjoyed fishing and farming. Mr. Powell loved watching his grandchildren play sports in Georgia and Kentucky. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Hospital Authority Board. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Powell and Billy Mack Powell, and by a sister-in-law, Doris Powell.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara O’Hearn Powell of Buena Vista, GA; by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerard and Kellie Powell of Buena Vista, GA, and Brock and Whitney Powell of Jacksonville, FL; by a brother, Clyde Powell of Tyler, TX; by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Beverly and Richard Barrett of Buena Vista, GA, and Mary Jane Hendricks of Gainesville, GA; sister-in-law, Faye Powell of Buena Vista, GA; and by grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Casper Geven, Kaillie Powell, Kaleb Powell all of Buena Vista, GA; Hayden Powell, Jack Powell, Lucas Powell, all of Lexington, KY, and Jonathan Powell of Jacksonville, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
