Joanna Owens Lawhorn

     ELLAVILLE, GA --- Ms. Joanna Owens Lawhorn, age 76, of Ellaville, GA died Thursday; May 5, 2016 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA.  Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, May 7, 2016 in the chapel of Watson-Giddens Funeral Home with burial to follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.  Rev. Joel Smith will officiate.

      Ms. Lawhorn was born January 2, 1940, the daughter of J. D. Owens and Lessie Mae Westmoreland Owens. She retired as Produce Manager from Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store in Ellaville in December 2015. Ms. Lawhorn loved her family, daughter, son in law, grandchildren and her cat Muffin.  She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard.  Ms. Lawhorn was a member of Ellaville Methodist Church.  

   Survivors include one daughter, Patricia O’Neal and husband Buddy of Ellaville; two granddaughters, Kameron Griffin and Lindsey O’Neal both of Ellaville; one brother, Buddy Owens and wife Gloria of Americus, GA; four sisters, Sandra Chustz and husband Jim of N. Charleston, SC, Nannie Hancock and husband Billy of Blairsville, GA, Gloria O. Allen of Midland, GA, Sarah Aaron of Picayune, MS; and one sister in law, Nell Owens of Ellaville, GA.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  Ms. Lawhorn was preceded in death by a brother, John Owens and a sister, Jeanette Owens May.  

     Pallbearers will include Joel Veatch, Shane Tondee, Duffy Maddox, Wendell Poole, Matthew Poole, and Donnie Poole.  Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville, GA.   Charitable donations may be made to the Humane Society.
