John Anthony "Tony" Powell

Mr. John Anthony “Tony” Powell, 76, of Americus, passed away at his residence on July 7, 2024. Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Bro. Stephen Fripp officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Sheffield, Weyman Parker, Chris Parker, John Dodson, and Frank Hatfield. Burial will follow the service in DeSoto Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. 

Mr. Powell was born December 21, 1947, in Americus, GA to John Thomas, Jr. and Margie Jackson Powell. A carpenter by trade, after his retirement he enjoyed selling produce and pecans. He loved the outdoors, fishing and watching wildlife. Mr. Powell loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Powell, and a grandson, Jonathon Powell.

Survivors include his three children, Paul Powell and his wife, Heather of Smithville, GA, Tina Powell of Ellaville, and Tami Sullivan and her husband, Wade of Ellaville; seven grandchildren, James Tubbs (Avery), Aaron Powell, Naomi Powell, Cheslie Fripp (Stephen), Blake Stringfellow, Dustin Sullivan (Hannah), and Tyler Woods; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Adams and her husband, Alvin of Valdosta, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
