Johnny Jerome Eason, 74, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on October 6, 2023. He was married to the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Joy Bunting Eason (deceased) and is survived by his legacy, his daughter, Joley Steffens and her husband, Neil, their children, Jordan, Heidi Joy, Cassidy, and Keegan, and his son, Jonas Eason. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Jordan. Johnny was the beloved brother of his sisters, Tricia Smith and her husband, Merle, Mary Dell Gibson and her husband, Mike, and his sisters-in-law, Brenda Scott, June Fleming, and Amanda Bunting, and will be dearly missed by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Fondly known to many as “Little Johnny” and “Bubba,” he was born on November 10, 1948 to Johnny Austin Eason and Mary Lessie Wells Eason and was a lifelong resident of Marion County. Johnny served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and retired from Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus after holding many roles including Registered Nurse and Hospital Administrator. He was an extraordinary nurse and showed incredible kindness to those he cared for, and he helped many others advance in the field of nursing.
Johnny loved his family and friends, and enjoyed raising chickens and goats, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and history. He had a generous spirit, a great sense of humor, was the best storyteller, and he could fix anything.
