June Elder Chalkley

Mrs. June Elder Chalkley, 83, of Buena Vista, GA, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus, GA. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Robert Orr officiating. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00PM.

Mrs. Chalkley was born in Richland, GA, on June 2, 1939, to Deroy Floyd and Dorothy Bius Elder. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper and worked alongside her husband at Chalkley’s Grocery for many years. Mrs. Chalkley loved being outside and enjoying her flowers. She collected all types of things - butterflies, blue glass, and McCoy pottery just to name a few. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Roy Elder, Jr.

She is survived by her husband R. W. “Wayne” Chalkley of Buena Vista, GA; two daughters, Pamela Chalkley DeLapp of Buena Vista, GA, and Jana Chalkley Martin (Matt) of Fortson, GA; three grandchildren, Colton Lee DeLapp, Reese Lydia Martin, and Rylie Louise Martin; and her siblings, Hilda Collins (Melvin), Leon Elder, Eddie Elder (Peggy), Dr. Joe Elder (Shirley), Ben Elder (Missy), Dan Elder (Laurel), and John Elder. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 687 GA Hwy 30, Buena Vista, GA 31803.
