Mrs. Kay Whidbee Sherwood, 83, of Ellaville, went to be with her Lord and Savior after an extended illness on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 12:30PM on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Cornerstone Church, 245 Southland Rd., Americus, with Rev. Kevin Brown officiating. Burial will follow the service at Andersonville National Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church one hour before the service beginning at 11:30AM. Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Riddick, Dalton Williams, Darren Williams, and Ashley Joyner.

Mrs. Sherwood was born in Jackson, MS, on November 20, 1941, to Johnnie Alton and Katherine Azella Riley Whidbee. She was an educator and employed as an English professor at Georgia Southwestern State University teaching English as a second language until her retirement in 2003. A devoted member of Cornerstone Church for over 30 years, she served 26 years on the Mission Team and had been on seventeen mission trips and through 23 time zones. Her travels included China, Taiwan, Mexico, Israel, and India. Mrs. Sherwood was a published author, having written “Red Moon, Black Sun” and “News from the Holy Land: A Trilogy.” She also taught swimming for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Bryant Lacy, a brother, John Al Whidbee, and a sister, Lynn Latimer.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Lee Sherwood of Ellaville, GA; by a son Anthony Ray Lacy; four daughters, Angela Lacy McLintock, Brent Lacy Joyner (Ashley), Sarah Sherwood Riddick (Frank), and Jacklyn Sherwood Williams (Darren); two sisters, Amanda Mayo (Troy) and Jane Aslam (Ahsan); eight grandchildren, Jessica Lacy Vick (Caleb), Kacey Arielle Tanveer, Emily Lacy Scott (Devon), Melisa Rae Lacy (Blake Hood), Eden Grace Joyner, Rachel Louise Windle (Hunter), Dalton Brock Williams (Kaleigh), and Michaela Grace Williams; five great-grandchildren, Orion deLacy Scott, Oliver Joel Scott, Dexter Jay Vick, Clover Elaina Hood, and Parker Louise Windle; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Mrs. Sherwood’s caregivers, Tracy Smith and Lynette Christensen.
