Leonard Averett Phillips

Mr. Leonard Averett Phillips, age 68, of Ellaville, GA died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at VistaCare Center at Franciscan Woods in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Ellaville United Methodist Church in Ellaville, with burial to follow in the Ellaville Cemetery. Rev. Lowell Layman, Mr. Bobby Owens, and Mr. Neil Snyder will officiate.

Mr. Phillips was born September 30, 1943 in Muscogee County, GA, the son of Robert Averett Phillips and Luverne Owens Phillips. He was a self employed truck driver. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Masonic Lodge #357 and Ellaville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Phillips; two sons, Greg Phillips of Buena Vista, GA, Glen Phillips and wife Heather of Ellaville; two sisters, Dedra Gilley and husband Bob of Ellaville, Frances Heath and husband Ronnie of Ellaville; two brothers, Benny Phillips and wife Alice of Covington, GA, Earl Phillips and wife Barbara of Powder Springs, GA; and four grandchildren, Ansley Paige Phillips, Haley Rebecca Phillips, Bethany Glen Phillips, and Abigail Grace Phillips. Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Kathryn and Jack Register, Diane and Bobby Phillips, Mary Ann and Junior Phillips, Nelly Phillips Howard, Billie and J. W. Phillips, Doris and Marvin Moore, Annette and Bobby Owens, and Ann Burk. In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Wayne Phillips.

Pallbearers will include Andy Miller, Tyler Tondee, Christopher Tondee, Nick Bentley, Austin Bentley, Cody Robinson, Clay Oxford, Stephanie Veatch and Jett Coptsias. Honorary pallbearers will include Oscar Harbuck, Steve Wall, Butch Bulloch, William Clemens, Rick Robbins, and Alan Miller.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home in Ellaville, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to VistaCare Center at Franciscan Woods, 2425 Williams Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
