Margaret Geraldine Ellis

Mrs. Margaret Geraldine Phillips Ellis, 81, of Ellaville, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 7, 2016 in the Ellaville Cemetery.   Rev. Joel Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Damion Ellis, Matt Ellis, Luke Ellis, Colby Ellis, Jack Clark & Andrew Ellis.

      Mrs. Ellis was born September 5, 1934 to the late L.T. Phillips and Gladys Simmons Phillips in Barbour County, AL.  She was a 1951 graduate of Crisp County High School.  Mrs. Ellis was well known in the community of Ellaville, helping her husband, Murray Ellis run their Service Station, Murray’s Place for many years.  She was a dedicated member of Ellaville Baptist Church, where she was in the Lydia Sunday school class, and a member of the WMU.  Mrs. Ellis was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  She was a Den mother for the Cub Scouts in the 1960’s and loved spending time at the baseball field for League 27 games, watching her children and grandchildren play ball. Mrs. Ellis especially loved when her family gathered at her house to swim and eat watermelon.   She was a joy to be around and never met a stranger, and she will be dearly missed.  Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Ellis, a son, Mitchell Ellis and a brother, Royce Phillips.

     Survivors include her sons, Roy Lynn Ellis and his wife, Susan of Ellaville and Michael Ellis of Ellaville; a daughter-in-law, Janet Ellis; a sister, Lentz Williams and her husband, Herbert of Ellaville; a sister-in-law, Jane Phillips of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Michael Damion Ellis and his wife Sarah of Leesburg, GA, Leah Clark and her husband, Jack of Ellaville, Matt Ellis and his wife, Holly of Ellaville, Colby Ellis and his wife, Andrea of Forest, MS, Luke Ellis and his wife, Melissa of Leesburg, GA, and Brittney Ellis of Carrolton, GA; ten great-grandchildren, Megan, Emma, Mikaela, Savannah, Andrew, Zachary, Jack III, Lane, Cole and Ian; and several nieces and nephews.

     Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home.
