Mrs. Minnie Albena “Bena” McGrother, 74, passed away on June 25, 2016 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at New Providence Baptist Church with Rev. David Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  Pallbearers will be Clinton Cook, Michael Mathews, Caleb Chapman, Seth McAllister, Dustin Pickren, Steve Young, Robbie McCorkle and Roger Sinyard.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Ferrell Cook, S.H. “Bubba” McCorkle, Wallace Higgs, Frank Hendricks, Julius McAllister and Tommy McCallister.

Mrs. McGrother was born January 22, 1942 to the late Charles L. Mathews and Thelma Harbuck Mathews in Marion County, GA.  She was a devoted member of New Providence Baptist Church, having served in many capacities including, Treasurer for over 28 years, Sunday school teacher and VBS & youth ministries.  She was retired from Scott’s Bedding and Castro Convertibles as a seamstress.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGrother was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Mathews, Charles Mathews, Jr. and Gene Mathews.

Survivors include her loving husband, Earl McGrother of Buena Vista, GA; three sisters, Betty Cook of Buena Vista, Ethel Arrington and her husband, Dan of Oakland and Darlene Greene and her husband, Toney of Forest Park, GA; three brothers, Thomas Mathews and his wife, Rita of Oakland, Robert Mathews and his wife, Brenda of Ellaville, GA and John Mathews and his wife, Charlotte of Buena Vista, GA; God-children, Seth and Melissa McAllister; a loving sister-in-law, Susan R. Mathews of Buena Vista; and numerous nieces and nephews.
