Mr. Paul L. Cox, Jr., 61, of Oglethorpe, GA, passed away on April 25, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, with a graveside service to follow in Ellaville City Cemetery at 4:30 PM with Rev. Tracey Adamson officiating.
Paul or “Jr.” as many knew him was born on February 15, 1965, in Montezuma, GA to Sue Cox. He retired from Macon State Prison after many years as a craftsman. Paul loved his family and friends and was always the life of the party. He never met a stranger and was always quick witted. If he loved you, then you knew it and he wasn’t going to miss the chance to tell you. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Cox, four brothers, Marvin Woodard, Ron Woodard, Richard Woodard and Jimmy Cox; and two sisters, Donnette Woodard, Annette Smith (Gerald); and his father-in-law, Medford Griffin.
He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Berta Cox of Oglethorpe, GA; two children, Brandon and Kristen Cox of Tybee Island, GA and Ashley and Sam Way of Buena Vista, GA; eight grandchildren, Gage (Melinda), Caden and Mason Cox, Breanna, CJ, Robert (Taylor), Heavenly and Livie Way; two great-grandchild, Leland and Hope; two sisters, Brenda Rigo (Paul) of Eatonton, GA, and Linda Williams (Dean) of Riverview, FL; his mother-in-law, Terry Griffin of Flowery Branch, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Leisa Cross (Ken); brother and sister-in-law, Roy Griffin (Angie); sisters-in-law, Dot Woodard and Sheila Johnson; a special niece, Nancy Tramel; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family also survive.
