AMERICUS, GA --- Mr. Phillip Bryan Rooks, age 50, of 250 Hwy 19 N, Americus, GA died early Sunday morning, March 15, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church in Americus with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Hugh Harbort will officiate.
Mr. Rooks was born September 7, 1958 in Sumter Co., the son of Erma Johnson Rooks and William Henry Rooks. He was a car dealer for 31 years and had served on the Schley County Board of Education. Mr. Rooks was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Lisa Holloway Rooks, two sons and daughter in laws, William and Laura Rooks of Americus GA, Jonathan and Jessica Rooks of Ellaville, GA, one brother and sister in law, Neal and Kathy Rooks of Americus, GA, three sisters and brother in laws, Henritta and Doc Rigsby, Sandra and Andy Dunford, Donna and Jerry Jones, all of Americus. Three grandchildren, Emily Rooks, Annslee Rooks and Adalyn Rooks also survive.
Pallbearers will include Al Johnson, David Jordan, William Reid, James Harper, Mack Herrington, Pete Arrington, Johnny Heath, and John Knapp. Honorary Pallbearers will include all Deacons of Shiloh Baptist Church, David Phillips, Donnie Price, Blaire Stone, Steve Nelson, Robert Anguish, Thurston Clary, Scooter Alford, Paul Schofield, Jim Reid, Jim Love, Scott Ivey, Stan Folsom, and Rick Davis.
Visitation will be held at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home Monday, March 16 beginning at 6:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Baptist Mission Fund, Shiloh Baptist Church, 961 Shiloh Road, Americus, GA 31709
