Mr. James Talbot Harrison, Sr., 94, of Ellaville, GA, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, at Perfect Care in Americus, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Hopewell Methodist Church with Bro. Troy Fripp officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 5:00-7:00PM at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville, Georgia, and at Hopewell Methodist Church on Saturday from 10:00AM until service time. Family can also be visited at the home of Jimmy and Martha's or Mrs. Betty's. Serving as pallbearers will be Walt Wingard, Danny Wingard, David Wingard, Henry Teague, Neil Snyder, and Stanley Rogers.
Mr. Harrison was born May 2, 1931, in Ellaville, GA, to Eugene Talbot and Selma Snider Harrison. A 1948 graduate of Schley County High School, Mr. Harrison joined the United States Marine Corps after graduation. He served honorably in Korea and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. Upon returning from the service, he married Miss Dorothy Anne Poupard. They were blessed with three sons. They were happily married for 53 years until her death in 2006. Mr. Harrison married Mrs. Betty Snipes in 2008. They would have celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in just a few weeks.
Mr. Harrison was an avid fisherman. Some would say it was his favorite hobby. He was a member of Hopewell Methodist Church. During his lifetime, he was the owner and operator of Ellaville Home Furnishings as well as a farmer. He raised cattle and swine on his farm in Schley County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Anne Poupard Harrison and his sister, Mary Ann Wingard.
He is survived by his wife, Betty S. Harrison of Ellaville, GA; by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Jean Harrison of Albany, GA, Jimmy and Martha Harrison of Ellaville, GA, and Bill and Melissa Harrison of Pine Mountain, GA; four grandchildren, Joni and Chip Lay, Ashley and Kemble Teague, Mckenzie and David Brewbaker, and Delaney and Keaton Scherpereel; and 13 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include Becky and Dan MacMinn and Barry Snipes and their families.
